Thanks for the reply, Robin. Getting people to migrate with you somewhere else is always the hardest part. The coordinating and some people struggle with new software. I used to work in a tech position that involved introducing new software to people, and trying to make that transition as painless as possible was always my number one goal. Some people just don’t think in a way that makes it easy to pick up new software and don’t enjoy the process.
Discord is often helpful in that regard, because a lot of people already use it. Same goes for Google Chat because a lot of people have Gmail. Signal I think also has potential for a replacement.
My account on FB is locked down pretty tightly and I have no problem unfollowing accounts or hiding content I don’t want to see. As a result, I rarely see content that I don’t want. Until I start having a problem, I’m sticking with FB/Messenger. I prefer not to have yet another online communication tool account but I will do what the rest of the community chat members decide. Although I haven’t used it much, I do have a Google account and would be happy to utilize Google Chat since I don’t have to create new account.
That is the nice thing about Google Chat, most folks already have a Gmail. It can also be activated in the Gmail app which means you don’t even need two separate apps on mobile.
I haven’t joined your Messenger community mainly because I don’t feel I could keep up with yet another space on social media. With Meta’s latest moves, I’m feeling less inclined to participate in anything more with Meta.
I hear ya. I’m trying to limit my networks as well. And this is an issue for just about anyone these days. Also why I wanted to get people to vote on platforms, so I could get a sense of where people were willing to move or already exist.
